Playing Catch Up

Confession - I forgot to take a picture for Day 3! And I also forgot my camera in the glove box of my car the past couple days. Thus I bring you iPhone photos, which didn't help me increase my photography skills... but are still fun none the less. And a slightly dorky photo to make up for the lack of a day 3 photo....

I discovered last week that my cheap-o Wal-Mart glasses DO NOT stay in place during surgery. Thus my first week during plastics that I had major problems with my glasses sliding down my nose mid-case. Problematic because when you're in sterile scrub, you CANNOT reach up and put the glasses back into place. I tried tucking them into my hair under my cap without much success. So, yesterday, before scrubbing in, I taped my glasses to my hat. Luckily, no one commented on them during either case.

Day 4
After work, I went over to my dear friends' house in midtown Houston. As soon as I walked in the door, their sweet daughter M, invited me to play with her and her teddy bears. However, she was enjoying play time in this bin (where they typically store their toys). In the sweet way that only M can say it, she looked at me and said, "Anna, I don't think you can fit in the bin. But you can snuggle next to me. (which I did)

Day 5
A glimpse into where I'm working. I've been on the plastic surgery service at MD Anderson for almost 2 weeks now. MD Anderson is a class of medicine by itself. While I'm on the plastics surgery service, don't think plastics. Think reconstructive surgery. (with so many microvascular components it's insane.) And the size of MD Anderson... is INSANE. I even lived right next to the Texas Medical Center for 2 years... and I couldn't fully comprehend the size of MD Anderson. There is a 1/4 mile long sky bridge that connects most of the main buildings. Every time I walk onto the sky bridge, I have to look both ways, because there are carts flying back and forth every so often, transporting patients, family and staff. This picture is taking ALMOST at the half way point of the sky bridge.

Looking straight ahead in the picture you can see the "Main" buildings of MD Anderson. (There are 30 ORs located in that section). To the right you can see a piece of the faculty building. (The plastic surgery offices are on floor 19 there). What you cannot see is the ACB bulding/Mays clinic where there are another 16 ORs and the Plastics Surgery clinic.
