Diamond Head Crater sits on the coast of Oahu, providing a distinctive texture to the horizon. The geologists tell us that it was created as a steam vent following the collapse of the volcanic crater on the eastern edge of the island.
The US Army built a fort in and around the crater, including an observation station on the upper most rim of the crater. The hike up Diamond Head is a hike to the observation stations. And the view is amazing.
This is the view looking out towards Koko Head and Hanauma Bay to the East.
Looking west, towards Waikiki, with one of the observation stations on the right side of the picture.
Looking down at Diamond Head lighthouse
The hike was made so much more fun because I hiked with my sweet friend Meg, who was out visiting for the week.
This is a pic at the trail head in the center of the crater.
